Axel Rudakubana, an 18-year-old from Southport, was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 52 years for killing three young girls and injuring 10 others during a Taylor Swift-themed dance class attack on July 29, 2024.
Investigations revealed that Rudakubana had purchased knives and equipment to make ricin online before the attack. Despite being referred to an anti-terror program three times, he managed to acquire weapons through limited online checks.
The incident has led to increased scrutiny on online weapon purchases and prompted the government to introduce new verification laws
