She has collaborated with renowned filmmakers such as Michael Haneke, David Cronenberg, Anthony Minghella, Abbas Kiarostami, Olivier Assayas, Hirokazu Kore-eda, and Krzysztof Kieślowski. Reflecting on her new role, Binoche expressed both excitement and humility. "In 1985, I first climbed the steps of Cannes as a young actress filled with enthusiasm and uncertainty. I never imagined that 40 years later, I would return as President of the Jury. I embrace this privilege with deep appreciation and responsibility."
Binoche’s connection with Cannes dates back to her breakthrough in André Téchiné's Rendez-vous, which premiered at the festival in 1985. Most recently, she attended Cannes in 2023 with Tran Anh Hung’s The Taste of Things, which won Best Director.
Beyond her acting career, Binoche is a progressive voice in the film industry, currently serving as President of the European Film Academy. She has been outspoken on social issues, advocating for education, human rights in Iran, and the #MeToo movement in France.
The 78th Cannes Film Festival is set to take place from May 13 to 24.
