Anthony Mackie, who takes on the mantle of Captain America in Captain America: Brave New World, recently addressed rumors about Chris Evans returning to the MCU in Avengers: Doomsday (2026). Speaking to Esquire, Mackie said he asked Evans directly, but the actor insisted he was "happily retired."
Evans also denied the reports, telling Esquire, “That’s not true. It happens all the time since Endgame. I just stopped responding to it.” However, speculation remains, as past Marvel actors—like Andrew Garfield—have previously denied involvement before making surprise appearances.
Avengers: Doomsday, directed by the Russo Brothers, will feature Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom. Meanwhile, Mackie is set to lead future Avengers films as the MCU’s new Captain America. Captain America: Brave New World hits theaters on February 14.
