Song Hye Kyo revealed that in her younger years, her top priority was her appearance on screen.

Speaking to allkpop on January 27, the actress discussed her new role in Dark Nuns, released in Korean theaters on January 24, and her evolving career mindset. In the film, she plays Junia, a nun who confronts an evil spirit within a young boy, ultimately locking it in her own body. Junia is a bold, unconventional character, swearing and smoking—traits Song Hye Kyo embraced by practicing smoking for six months to add realism.

After the success of The Glory, Hye Kyo has shifted away from romantic films, seeking roles with more depth. She now prioritizes conveying emotions over physical appearance.

In an interview with Elle magazine in February 2023, Hye Kyo accepted that she was old, did not like to go to noisy, crowded places, and enjoyed nature. According to allkpop, the actress is not pressured by age. ''I accept my appearance. However, as a public figure, I try to manage myself and slow down the aging process,'' she said. At the age of 43, Song Hye Kyo said she does not put much faith in the future but lives for the present.

In her 20s, she avoided roles involving smoking but later realized such elements are crucial for character development. At 43, the actress focuses on living in the moment, accepting her age, and maintaining self-care.

Debuting at 14 as a photo model, Song Hye Kyo rose to fame through hit dramas like Autumn in My Heart and Descendants of the Sun. Despite her TV success, her film career lacks major hits. She was married to actor Song Joong Ki for two years before divorcing in 2019.
