On February 7, NewJeans members Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein introduced their new team name, NJZ, through a photo posted on their newly launched social media account. Following the announcement, the account name was changed from jeanzforfree to njz_official.
In an exclusive interview with CNN on February 6, the members explained that the rebranding was “a way to make difficult times more interesting” and reassured fans that they are working hard to “resolve everything and get back to normal.” They emphasized that they “do not want the legal dispute with ADOR to define their careers.”
Danielle directly addressed the conflict with ADOR, stating, “We have completely lost trust in ADOR” and confidently asserting, “We believe that we will win the battle with HYBE and ADOR.”
Last November, NewJeans initiated a contest via social media to select a new stage name after announcing the termination of their contract with ADOR. Regarding their final decision, the members shared, “After carefully considering fans’ opinions, we chose NJZ, a name that preserves the essence of NewJeans.”
Hanni clarified, “We are setting aside the NewJeans name for now, but we have not abandoned it completely. The time we spent as NewJeans was special to us and our fans, and we will continue to cherish it.”
NJZ’s first official appearance under their new name will be at ComplexCon in Hong Kong, a renowned global street fashion and culture festival, from March 21 to 23. The group will also perform at the event’s side concert, Complex Live. Excitingly, they plan to premiere a brand-new song at the festival. Hanni teased, “It will have a very unique sound,” while Haerin confidently added, “There’s nothing that can stop us anymore.”
Along with their new name, NJZ has also introduced a revamped aesthetic. Departing from their signature “girl next door” image, Hanni revealed, “Our look will be completely different—sharper and more intense.”
With a bold new identity and fresh musical direction, NJZ is ready to embark on their next chapter, determined to leave their mark on the industry.
