Ed Sheeran gave fans an unexpected treat with a live street performance in Bangalore, India, but police swiftly shut it down, citing a lack of permission.
The four-time Grammy winner was in the city between tour stops when he decided to busk on Church Street. However, midway through his rendition of Shape of You, a uniformed officer unplugged his guitar and microphone, leaving Sheeran visibly frustrated, as seen in viral social media footage.
Local authorities stated they had denied Sheeran’s request to perform due to the area’s heavy foot traffic. However, the singer insisted on Instagram that prior approval had been granted.
The incident sparked mixed reactions online—some praised the surprise performance, while others criticized the authorities for shutting it down.
Sheeran, a popular artist in India, previously played a sold-out show in Mumbai and has two more concerts scheduled in the country before heading to China and the UAE.
