A political figure has weighed in on the controversy surrounding IVE’s Jang Won-young and whether she should visit the funeral of Kim Ha-neul (8), a young fan who was tragically murdered by an elementary school teacher.
At a Supreme Council meeting on the 13th, Chun Ha-ram of the New Reform Party suggested that Jang should not visit, citing concerns that other children might develop a harmful perception, thinking, "If something happens to me, will my favorite idol visit?"

Meanwhile, many netizens have urged Jang Won-young to pay her respects, pointing out that Ha-neul deeply admired her. The child’s father mentioned that Ha-neul was an avid fan, requesting a Jang Won-young photocard for her birthday and prioritizing IVE’s broadcasts over other programs.
In response, IVE’s agency, Starship Entertainment, sent a wreath and a photocard to the funeral home, expressing their condolences. Despite this, some netizens continued to leave comments on Jang Won-young’s social media, pleading for her to visit.
Ha-neul’s father later clarified that he had only made a request, not a demand, after some accused him of pressuring the idol.
The tragic case has drawn national attention, as Ha-neul was killed on February 10 by a 40-year-old female teacher in Daejeon, who reportedly confessed that she intended to kill a student at random before taking her own life.
