Director Todd Phillips’ film leads the 2025 Razzie Awards with a total of 7 nominations, including Worst Picture and Worst Actor/Actress.

According to Variety, the 2025 Razzie nominations were announced on January 21, with Joker: Folie à Deux leading the pack. Madame Web, Megalopolis, Borderlands, and Reagan followed closely, each earning four nominations.

Alongside Worst Picture, Joker: Folie à Deux received nominations for Worst Director, Worst Screenplay, and Worst Prequel/Sequel/Spin-off. Stars Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix were recognized in the Worst Actress and Worst

Released on October 3, Joker: Folie à Deux takes viewers on a dark psychological journey with Arthur Fleck, now confined in Arkham Asylum. While grappling with his fractured identity, he meets Harley Quinn for the first time.

The film's reception has been polarizing. The shift from psychological drama in the first installment to a musical in the sequel has sparked debate among critics and audiences alike.

Film Authority's Eddie Harrison gave the movie a perfect score, praising it as an "anti-hero, anti-comic book film with a fresh perspective." Time Out similarly lauded the musical approach, emphasizing how it played to Lady Gaga’s strengths. Joaquin Phoenix's performance was also widely praised, with many commending his portrayal of Arthur's loneliness and fractured psyche. The chemistry between Gaga and Phoenix was highlighted as one of the film's strongest elements.

However, not all reviews were favorable. Some critics labeled Joker: Folie à Deux a "disaster." Slant Magazine rated it 1 out of 4, criticizing its rigid direction, chaotic emotional execution, and overwhelming nihilism. IndieWire and The Times called it "boring," with "messy, ambiguous storytelling drowned in an excess of music."

At the box office, the film struggled to recoup its massive budget. Earning only $206 million worldwide against a $200 million production cost, Joker: Folie à Deux fell far short of its predecessor’s billion-dollar success.

The 2025 Razzie winners will be announced ahead of the Academy Awards, continuing the tradition of celebrating Hollywood’s most controversial cinematic moments.
