NASCAR Hall of Famer Jeff Gordon is eager for a sequel to "Days of Thunder" and has discussed the idea with Tom Cruise. Speaking at Daytona International Speedway, Gordon confirmed his interest in being involved if the project moves forward.

Reports surfaced in November that Cruise had spoken to Paramount about revisiting the 1990 NASCAR film, which, despite its initial criticism, has become a cult favorite among racing fans. Iconic lines like “Rubbin’, son, is racin’” still resonate with NASCAR enthusiasts today.

Gordon, now vice chairman at Hendrick Motorsports, won the Daytona 500 with Rick Hendrick and William Byron and remains close to Cruise, who honored him at a 2015 NASCAR event. While uncertain if a sequel will happen, Gordon is optimistic about NASCAR’s future on screen, whether through a film or a docuseries.

Reflecting on the original movie’s impact, Gordon noted that it introduced NASCAR to a mainstream audience and revolutionized how racing was portrayed in Hollywood. With smaller cameras and advanced technology, a sequel could be even more authentic and immersive.

While NASCAR’s entertainment ventures have seen mixed success, Gordon believes there’s growing industry interest, signaling a promising future for the sport in film and television.
