Duolingo’s beloved green owl, Duo, has “died,” according to a humorous announcement from the language-learning app. The brand playfully stated that authorities are investigating the cause of death, joking that Duo likely perished while waiting for users to complete their lessons.

The statement also referenced Duo’s many "enemies" and requested that people refrain from sharing why they disliked him. Adding to the fun, Duolingo acknowledged singer Dua Lipa, with whom the mascot had a long-standing, one-sided love story, even proposing outside her concert.

Lipa responded to the news with a witty post: “Til’ death duo part.” Despite Duo’s supposed demise—rumored to involve a Cybertruck—Duolingo reassured fans that its brand remains as “alive (and unhinged) as ever.”
